Kimbell Acquires Important Early Italian Still Life by Artist Known as "Pensionante del Saraceni"

Still Life with Melon, Watermelon, and Other Fruits (c. 1610–20) enters the permanent collection. This quiet yet powerful work is among the finest and earliest of the independent still lifes painted in Italy in the wake of Caravaggio.

  • Guest of Honor: Kimbell Presents Caravaggio's Judith Beheading Holofernes

    On loan from the Gallerie Nazionali di Arte Antica in Rome, the painting will be on view at the Kimbell September 14, 2025, through January 11, 2026.

    The new acquisition is on view, as the Kimbell’s Caravaggio painting "The Cardsharps" (c. 1596–97) also returns on view after a loan to a celebrated exhibition at Rome’s Palazzo Barberini.
