Allison V. Smith, photographer, Dallas

Moderated by George T. M. Shackelford, deputy director

What does the art of the past mean to the artist of the present? In this ongoing program, moderated by Kimbell staff, artists and architects discuss works in the museum’s collection, share the special insights of the practicing professional, and relate older art to contemporary artistic concerns, including their own. The program is free and requires no reservations.

Allison V. Smith is a photographer based in Dallas, Texas. She first gained renown as a journalist, working for such clients as Texas MonthlyThe New York Times, and The Washington Post, and is now celebrated for her large-scale photographic prints, in the collections of such institutions as the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Combining a keen eye for abstract composition with a strong preference for rich, saturated color, Smith produces bold images, disturbing or delightful in turn, that stay on in the viewer’s memory.
