Sedrick Huckaby, artist, Fort Worth
Moderated by George T. M. Shackelford, deputy director, Kimbell Art Museum
Sedrick Huckaby’s paintings and drawings explore universal themes of faith, family, community, and heritage–with a pictorial aggression that approaches relief sculpture. “I believe my paintings are done in a language more closely in tune with my soul than the language of my tongue,” he has said. Huckaby focuses on portraiture, or on household objects like patchwork quilts, in his quest to glorify everyday people.
What does the art of the past mean to the artist of the present? In this ongoing program, moderated by Kimbell staff, artists and architects discuss works in the museum’s collection, share the special insights of the practicing professional, and relate older art to contemporary artistic concerns, including their own. The program is free and requires no reservations.
Lecture programs are supported in part by the Marlene and Spencer Hays Foundation.
