Rachel Livedalen

Rachel Livedalen, artist, Fort Worth

Moderated by Nancy E. Edwards, curator of European art/head of academic services

Rachel Livedalen explores representations of femininity in her evocative artwork, often juxtaposing repetitions of Greco-Roman sculpture with colorful tropes from her “girl-power” adolescence. Drawing from both art history and a contemporary culture of commodification, she probes societal ideas of beauty and value with a rich, playful personal lexicon. Her paintings deftly combine techniques that range from screen printing to acrylic and airbrush painting and stenciling. Based in Fort Worth, Livedalen heads the printmaking area in the TCU art department.

What does the art of the past mean to the artist of the present? In this ongoing program, moderated by Kimbell staff, artists and architects discuss works in the museum’s collection, share the special insights of the practicing professional, and relate older art to contemporary artistic concerns, including their own. The program is free and requires no reservations.

Lecture programs are supported in part by the Marlene and Spencer Hays Foundation.
