P. Gregory Warden, Mark A. Roglán Director, Custard Institute for Spanish Art and Culture, University Distinguished Professor of Art History Emeritus, Southern Methodist University, Dallas
In this lecture, Warden explores the evolution of Roman male portraiture from the verism (hyper-realism) of the Republic to the idealized images of the Empire. The lecture also investigates how sculptors balanced or manipulated character and physiognomy to represent the Roman ideals of virile virtue.
