Establishing the exact locations of the crucifixion and burial of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem have been of paramount interest to scholars ever since controversies over these places began in the nineteenth century. The lecture will address the historical and archaeological evidence at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, which is considered one of the holiest sites for Christians worldwide. Recent archaeological discoveries made in the area of the Edicule and beneath the floors of this major edifice will also be discussed.
Evening lectures by distinguished guest speakers address a range of topics relating to the appreciation and interpretation of art. They are free and open to the public. Seating is limited.
Lecture programs are supported in part by the Marlene and Spencer Hays Foundation.
