About Bandan Koro African Drum and Dance Ensemble

Bandan Koro African Drum and Dance Ensemble was founded by Tony Browne in 2009 as an outlet to study and share experiences associated with African culture and history with the community at large through the presentation of dance, music and specialized presentations.

Bandan Koro is a nonprofit organization that offers stage productions, music and dance workshops, team building activities, community performances, open classes, youth programs, and specialized educational programs. The company combines engaging and interactive cultural learning and community building elements with dynamic and entertaining presentations of African, Caribbean, and African-American dance, music, and culture.

Bandan Koro is a Malinke term meaning “under the tree” where the large trees of Africa traditionally serve as gathering places for the community. In this tradition, Bandan Koro invites audiences to gather under the tree to celebrate life, while exploring African arts and culture, and relating cultural arts experiences to present day life scenarios.

Bandan Koro has been featured nationwide and internationally at venues including the AT&T Performing Arts Center, American Airlines Center, Dallas Museum of Art, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Rhythm in Fusion Festival, and at nationwide Dance Africa festivals in Denver, Atlanta and Dallas. Bandan Koro has also been invited to tour Mexico, and serve as featured artist at Dance X in Belize.

The ensemble of musicians, singers, dancers, storytellers, and educators engage with diverse audiences year-round, fostering values of love, pride, cultural engagement and excellence within communities that they visit.

Bandan Koro’s mission is to educate and inspire through African arts and culture. For more information about Bandan Koro please visit www.DallasAfricanDance.com. You can also find social media content on the Bandan Koro Facebook and Instagram pages.
