"Mares and Foals Belonging to the 2nd Viscount Bolingbroke," considered one of the greatest works by the eighteenth-century British painter, is acquired in memory of Ben J. Fortson (1932–2024).
The new acquisition is on view, as the Kimbell’s Caravaggio painting "The Cardsharps" (c. 1596–97) also returns on view after a loan to a celebrated exhibition at Rome’s Palazzo Barberini.
"Standing Figure Holding a Were-Jaguar Baby," one of the most famous sculptures from ancient Mesoamerica, was acquired in celebration of Renzo Piano Pavilion’s tenth anniversary.
On its 50th anniversary, the Kimbell Art Museum has acquired three artworks that demonstrate the institution’s dedication to collecting and exhibiting objects that speak to the transcendent power of art.
"Still Life with a Bowl of Strawberries, Basket of Cherries, and Branch of Gooseberries" will be on public view for the first time in its history beginning November 18, 2022.
We are proud to welcome this remarkable painting into our collection — the first work by an Austrian artist at the Kimbell — and to share it with the public for the first time in more than 50 years.
